Human Nutrition and Food Safety
OBJECTIVE: Provide a nutritious,
high-quality, safe, and secure food supply and enable consumers
to make informed and healthful dietary choices.
Subobjectives
A. Food safety and security
- Research microbial, chemical and physical hazards, both
natural and human-made, relative to food safety
- Enhance food security methods throughout production,
processing, distribution and service systems; for example,
to reduce the impact of agri-terrorism
- Investigate issues related to food quality and food
safety and develop effective methods for communicating
this information
B. Nutrition and wellness
- Investigate relevant nutrition-related public health
issues, for example: "Metabolic Syndrome" (obesity,
cardiovascular disease, and diabetes), cancer and specific
age-related issues
- Develop sustainable solutions for nutrition-deficient
populations
- Investigate issues related to nutrition and wellness
and develop effective methods of communicating this information
