OBJECTIVE: Enhance
the Illinois food and agricultural industry's profitability
by identifying consumer demand, developing marketing expertise,
developing new technologies, and advancing existing technologies
to retain and to expand markets for agricultural products.
Subobjectives
A. Develop and expand agricultural markets
- Understand consumer preferences (industry and end consumer)
- Identify emerging and potential markets, including niche
markets, and marketing channels for existing, enhanced
and new products
- Explore foreign, domestic and branded opportunities
- Enhance value, quality and safety of Illinois agricultural
products
- Evaluate trade and policy implications (domestic and
international, including foreign animal disease economic
impacts)
- Identify export opportunities of Illinois agriculture
products
- Identify profitable models or marketing systems for
livestock and crops
B. Develop new products and services
- Expand and improve renewable energy production using
range of agricultural products (ex. corn, livestock manure,
soybean, switchgrass, trees)
- Reformulate and redesign existing engines to better
use renewable fuels
- Fiber production and processing, and biomass materials
- Alternative and specialty agricultural products
- Evaluate feasibility of small-scale processing and manufacturing
of specialty and health-based products
- Investigate opportunities to incorporate nanotechnology
into Illinois food and agricultural sectors
- Use renewable fuels to produce anhydrous ammonia
C. Develop uses for by-products
- Ethanol production
- Dried distillers grain utilitzation
