FY09 External Competitive Grants Program

September 20, 2007	Request for pre-proposals issued
October 25	12:00 p.m. (noon), pre-proposals due (including both the online submission and hard copy submission to C-FAR office)
November 5	Pre-proposals sent to WG participants for review and evaluation WG participants who are affiliated with a university or other research entity will not receive pre-proposals for review and evaluation to prevent a perceived or actual conflict of interest Alternates to WGs will also not receive pre-proposals to ensure fairness among the C-FAR membership
Early December	Working Group chairs and vice chairs, Research Committee chair and vice chair and university research leaders (who serve in an advisory capacity) meet to review pre-proposal rankings as submitted by WG participants and identify pre-proposals for which a full proposal is desired
December 7	Full proposals invited from a select number of pre-proposals. Principal investigators of pre-proposals not selected are notified
January 24, 2008	12:00 p.m. (noon), full proposals due (including both the online submission and hard copy submission to the C-FAR office)
March 3-5	Working Groups meet to review and prioritize projects for funding (WG meetings will be held in Champaign-Urbana)
TBD	Working Group chairs and vice chairs, Research Committee chair and vice chair and university research leaders meet to finalize the FY09 External Program portfolio of funded projects once the FY09 appropriation by the State of Illinois is known

Note: The C-FAR appropriation follows the same fiscal year as the State of Illinois, which runs from July 1st through June 30th (e.g., FY08 is July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008).
