C-FAR Leadership Ready to Serve
URBANA-Members of the Illinois Council on Food and Agricultural
Research (C-FAR) recently met for their annual meeting at
the Northfield Inn, Suites & Conference Center in Springfield.
C-FAR board members and committee leaders provided updates
on the organization's membership activities and research
programs. Chairman Alan Puzey addressed the membership on
the importance of their continuing to "step up to the
plate" to ensure Illinois has a viable publicly funded
research program to support its food, agricultural and related
systems. "I have never been associated with an organization
whose members are so dedicated to its mission. I trust my
message reinforced just how valuable their engagement is,"
said Puzey.
During the meeting, the C-FAR membership re-elected three
individuals to serve on the seven-person board of directors:
Alan Puzey (Fairmount), Larry Fischer (Quincy), and Steve
Scates (Shawneetown). They join Fred Bradshaw (Griggsville),
David Downs (Allerton), Nels Kasey (Paris), and Karen Little
(Pleasant Plains). The 2006 C-FAR Board of Directors subsequently
met for their first meeting of the year and elected officers
to serve in 2006. Elected were Alan Puzey, chairman; David
Downs, vice chair; and Fred Bradshaw, secretary/treasurer.
"This organization can be extremely proud of its board
leadership," said Terry Wolf, nominating committee
chair. "Any organization would yearn to benefit from
such a dedicated group of volunteers."
The 2006 C-FAR committee leadership was appointed in late
March by the Board of Directors. They include Larry Fischer,
membership chair; Terry Wolf (Homer), nominating chair;
Dennis Thompson (Champaign), rules and procedures chair;
Karen Little, legislative chair; Nels Kasey, research chair;
and Steve Scates, research vice chair.
